Injector return line observation...
I replaced the return lines on the SDL a little less then two years ago with the black stuff, I don't know who made it. Well over the winter fuel soaked through it and they are all shot, one is leaking pretty good left a nice puddle around the injector.
Anyway I bought some from the dealer today, and to my surprise its the old yellow and gray stuff. Hmmm, it has a thinner wall but is much harder. I thought the yellow and gray stuff was discontinued, guess not it was off a brand new roll. So lets see how long this stuff lasts; my friend has it on his E300D and his is still dry. This new fuel can be a pita. |
Return Line
Do you mind letting us know where the low quality line came from...?

Did you replace it the first time with gas fuel line? There is a difference between gas and diesel fuel lines and diesel will distroy the stuff made for gas.

I did my return lines 2-3 years ago (I didn't do them all at the same time), and the line the dealer gave me was the gray/yellow stuff ... hasn't leaked since. Before that I also had the black stuff, although I'm not sure how long it had been on there before it started leaking ... my dad had put that on before he gave me the car and I'm not sure when he did it. But boy, when the black lines went, they WENT.

The dealer stuff is made by Continental, I have no idea who makes the black lines. |

Hatti,
How much is the return line from the dealer? |
$17.37 for four feet.

I went to a truck parts place that deals mostly with diesels and bought five feet for about $3.50 total. I have used gas rated line from the auto parts store for diesel fuel as a temporary thing but I could feel it getting soft after a few days.
