Exclamation Disabling the Emergency Brake

Good afternoon! Time is of the essence for I deliver pizza in four hours and fourty minutes!

I am driving (well, not able to now!) a 1985 300 SD and when I pulled the emergency brake handle it broke and now my brake is stuck!

I have considered two options, but I am open to others. Is it possible to:
- Dismantle my dash and attach a cable of some sort so that if habit hits and I put on the brake again that I will be able to disengage it.
- Disconnect the emergency brake line.

Thank you for your time and suggestions!

She is a tank named New Blue (we also have an '83 300 SD named Old Blue since we have owned for 24 years!) and has almost 270,000 miles and one of most reliable vehicles at the pizza shop where I deliver! Good times!!!

Thank you!!!!

Take off the drivers kickpanel (above your knees) and that will give you access to the parking brake mechanism. You should be able to make it release with a ling screwdriver or pliers. Just be sure to keep your fingers away from it when it releases, pinch hazard.

For safety reasons and the fact that it is a labor and time consuming task to take apart the cables, I'd go with just pulling the kick panel off the bottom of the dash and you can easily reach up in there and hook a piece of bailing wire or the like right onto the tab that the handle went to, it is just a chain on the handle that connects it to the release assy. Who knows, you might just find a bent link and just be able to crimp the handle back together, or tie it back together with the wire.

I hope it's just one of the chain links that broke, and nothing else. That part is easy to replace at the yard.
