Do our windows have a limit switch?

What happens when you hold down the button after the windows are all the way up/down? I'm wiring one of the AUX outputs on my alarm to raise/lower the windows. It outputs a signal for a set number of seconds, what will happen after the window reaches the top if the relay is still activated?

The motor stalls, and begins heating up, and putting stress on the regulator.

There is no limit switch on these windows.

Any harm to do it occasionally for no more than a few seconds? They probably get more abuse from people holding down the buttons too long, right?

You are risking burning out your motors, but sounds like a cool idea. If you could somehow make a switch that applied voltage to the window motors only when you pressed a button (as soon as you release the button, voltage would be turned off), that'd be the way to go.

How much of a change in current/resistance is there on the motor when it reaches the end? I can probably get some power transistors instead of relays, and build a circuit to shut off when it reaches the end

That's how the Hirschmann power antenna shuts off. When the motor stalls, a circuit senses the increased load and shuts off the current. If the antenna hits something, is bent or broken, or otherwise jams, same thing. Works up or down. Should be easy to design a simple circuit with a small resistor across which you could develop a voltage drop to signal a latching circuit.

Please share what you come up with.
