Head Gasket Job on a 606 (E300)
Just a thought...if you're planning on doing this job by yourself or at an INDY buy the reman parts for the head ahead of time if you plan on renting a car (if you get a loaner - no worries).
I have to wait for a shipment from Germany. No dealership in the US or Canada had them in stock. The fastest way is from teh mothership in Germany (5-7 days no guarantees - it's hurricane season) Indy = $$$$$ + rental (or if you have a 2nd car no worries) = $$$$$$$$$$ Stealership = $$$$$$$$$ (loaner) = $$$$$$$$$ Stealership wins (you drive a Benz for 2-3 weeks instead of PT cruiser)

Just wondering......why does it need a headgasket at 168k? The 606 is supposed to be legend of reliability...?

He said in the other thread that he had an external leak. Mine used to have some residual pressure in the cooling system, but Bar's Leaks Head Gasket Repair mostly fixed it. The OM606 engine is pretty reliable, but the head gasket may still be a relative weak point.

legend my a$$
My M103 was a legend, I did the head job myself at 283K miles. Granted the leak was oil/coolant mixing and my 606 is only coolant leaking outwards but overall my 190E was a more reliable car.

Just an update
Guides arrived from Frautown and they sent 24, but ALL INTAKES!!! I'm over it, my rental is costing too much so I asked them just change the intake guides and give it back to me. Stealership wins, I'll go there next time I have an issue of this magnitude. My W201 (2.6) was never a hassel. I thought my diesel woul dbe less problematic...so far not so the case.
