What to do

I am currently looking into 3 different cars
1) 83 300SD 160k on clock (TMU) rust free, and new brakes all around a given. engine and trans seem good.
2)85 300D Cali. 117k on clock. This was abandon(dumb a$$) and will have to titled accordingly. rust free but will need a good going over for all the little stuff.
3) 83 240D stick, runs and drives with good body but don't know much more yet.

My problem is at this time, I can only afford 1 .........what should I go for?

P.S. the 240 would be the only keeper, I would flip the other 2.

I vote for the 240. It is the last year of manufacture for our market also....

I like the 240 idea too. My wife and I are full time RV'ers and the stick is what I really want for towing behind the MH, but..........flipping the other 2 sure would build up the travel kitty .

I'm pretty sure you can't tow a MB stickshift with the drive wheels on the ground either...damages the tranny. Others will chime in, but I think neither one can be towed that way.

I was under the impression I could as long as the shifter was secured so that it could not fall into gear

Am I wrong?????

I have one of each that you mention, and I love the 240D. If I had only one MB, it would be my manual 240D. Can't tow due to manual box or the auto trannys as they have rear pumps that allow you to pull start these old mb diesels...
