This is nothing new for Europe, except you'll no doubt find that the claims are wildly exaggerated.

Going by Honda's past diesel efffort, I truly doubt there is exagerration of any kind, the current Accord diesel gives 41mpg, way better than the comparative OM611 which gives around 32mpg on highway.

The new Bluetec C-class gets a 42mpg combined, and that IS coming to the US.

Gurkha......I believe the 62mpg mileage quote is based on the Imperial Gallon.
The US Gallon is 24% less in volume. That would drop the US mileage on the new diesel Honda to about 54mpg which is still great!

A diesel Nissan Maxima is slated for sale in the US by 2010. I have not seen the MPG spec on that one. It is suppose to have the Renault diesel engine.
Cheers

F18, why do you think it's imperial gallons? it is a US article, and it quotes the sacramento test bed... california is also mentioned in the article. as well as the quote about US/europe %of cars fuel produced...
Just curious why you think imperial?

My fault! I had looked at Gurkha's location which is India and assumed the information was based on specs published there......British Colonialization (sp?) left its mark world wide when it comes to weights and measures. And I have come across other US publications that have just requoted the mpg figures for other cars posted in the UK without footnoting the volume system that the mpg is based on. Some of these writers do not know that the "gallon" is not the same globally!
Cheers,

41mpg to 62.8mpg is a HUGE improvement. Sounds fishy to me for a car the size of an Accord... perhaps in a car like the Insight (because of aerodynamics and weight).

I talked to the sales guys at the dealer and they said that their are no concrete plans yet. But if they can get it 50 state emissions legal they will probably import one for the 08 or 09 model year. The new C class will arrive at the dealers as an 07 model sometime in late July.

The problem is all the wacko people who make emissions laws would rather see you driving Hummer H2's then 42mpg diesels.

the 6 ton trucks (weight, not tonnage) are pulling over 20MPG, with something like 400 HP. I am sure it's possible to get 63MPG in an accord.

I've been driving Mercedes-Benz Diesel powered cars since the early 1980's - if the Honda Accord Diesel makes it to USA my 25 year MB ownership history will be coming to an abrupt end.
