dash light says "service in 600 miles" ?? '99 300td
new owner of 1999 300e td, I have 104,424 miles on this beautiful ride.
the car has been fully maintained by the previous owner. my question is what type of service does this indicate? should I ignore this? car drives great. can I turn this off somehow? thanks in advance randy |

Looking at the numbers, my guess is oil change time. Add that 600 and it comes to 105,000. Since I have the OM617, it's just a guess.

I believe that the '99 has the FSS, so it's not by mileage alone. It certainly indicates an oil change, plus the rest of a 100K service. I do not recall what that entails, but it should be in your owner's manual.

As has been mentioned its part of the FSS. Usually indicates oil change intervals. Your Manual explains resetting it using the odometer reset button on the left in sequence with different ignition key positions. When you get it right (which will take a few tries) it resets it to 10,000 miles.
This is different than a CEL that indicates a malfunction........
