Front brake job - now BAS/ABS Light and fading pedal

I have a 1999 E300td. Put new pads on the front. Started it up to see if I needed to bleed the brakes - BAS/ABS light is on now - pedal soft and fades. I bled the fronts. Light is still on and pedal is firmer, but still fades.

Also swapped Alternator so Batt had been unhooked.
No brake issues before except worn pads.

I cannot find a bleed valve on the ABS unit. I'm going out now to bleed the backs (didn't mess with them though)

If the bleeding the back doesn't help, any suggestions? Is there a valve somewhere for the ABS that is hidden? Is there a reset sequence?

Thx

I'd check the codes first and then check your brake light switch at teh top of the pedal before touching the ABS unit.
