Is this 1980 300sd a Euro import?

Found this 300sd for $1,600 on Saint Louis' craigslist. I asked for some pictures of it and I got many back. It appears to have some euro features such as a wind deflector and euro headlights. Not sure what those rims are on it either. 260,000 miles with service history. Would be a nice second car (to compliment my one with a broken chrysler servo.) A USPS postal minivan just hit my car and I got a quote of 1,600 to fix it. Hopefully USPS will cough up some money, but I'm not sure how their whole insurance thing works. I could live with a big dent in it for another car (and twice the repairs). How does this car look for 1,600?

Nope, it isn't. The W116 300SD was a US-only car.

The VIN would sure clear it up quick.

Anyway, I like it. A detailed service history would make me feel less uncomfortable about buying a car of that milage.

Strange, with those rims and and from that angle, in the third picture I'd swear it was a late model BMW 7 series.

No their is no such thing as a euro diesel W116 or W126. They were North American only cars. If you see one somewhere else in the world then it was shipped their after being purchased in North America.

They look like it, those were very popular in the 80s but I never really liked them. The chrome fender trim scares me.

My friend's Porsche 928 has some similar wheels (same color...they match the color of his car). It's an awesome car .

I like the w116 better than the w123, I was ready to buy a beautiful green w116 with a palomino interior from the son of the car's original owner with all service records, 225k miles, 2,300 dollars. Couldn't buy it at that time (had to convince my parents a car w/o airbags is safe) unfortunately. Looks good from cellphone pictures, heh. It's priced right... url: http://stlouis.craigslist.org/car/324856704.html

I have heard that as well. I have never seen a Japanese 300SD, but I have not looked either. I suspect most were exported when they wouldn't pass inspection after a few years to other countries in asia.

Japan seems to be coughing up a lot of very mint very nice AMG'd W126's these days.
