cleaning the small primary filter tide/bleach
I have been fighting a bad algee case
got the car very cheap as it was almost not running because of the algee droped the main tank strainer and it was covered and blocked by a inch solid of black gunk so the tank was treated with bio-side and slowly clearing out in this trial I have fouled many filters and tryed several cleaning chemical starting fluid, injector cleaner, windex, pinesol , gas and a few other things have been tryed the other day I picked up some 2 1/2 gal tide with bleach containers planing to use then to collect WVO in anyway as I was washing out the remaining tide I tryed that in the filter they came near new clean and clear unlike the other chemicals tryed thinking about it, bleach is the majic ingreediant, with a little soap/detergent any way to reuse a primany filter just mix up some bleach and cloth washing soap and water and fill the filter, let it sit over nite and wash out with water hose I use a 1/4 hose adpter for a standerd garden hose with a small tube super glued inside and a peice of fuel hose to fit the filter to form a funnel and quick to screw on a garden hose to flush with water drain it and let it sit on the dash for a few hours to dry |

Must be a Scottsman.....
....and moths must swarm if the wallet is opened.....
SB I'm retired, but my time and effort would still be worth more than the cost of a new filter......

Actually, Uncle Sugar's Army spent many $$$ teaching me about biology and chemistry. His bleach idea is not far off. Various hypochlorites are known to kill almost all known microorganisms. BUT it also is very corrosive. So do rinse and repeat, etc.

when u got bad algae and hafto change it every 500-1000 miles, it gets unpalateable.
I use regular laundry detergent, I don't know about using a bleach product on that fine mesh portion of the filter. anyway people who re-use them are in the minority... http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/showthread.php?t=172250

My primary got blocked and left me stuck along the road. Just happened to have some charcoal lighter fluid in the trunk. Rinsed it out with that. Worked great and didn't have to let it sit. Poured some in, gave it a shake and down the road again.....

You ought to consider buying parts from this site. The OEM filter is $2.40 and includes brass inlet and outlet fittings..........you sure you want to clean yours at that price?

well it only takes a few sec
to pop on the hose and pour in the mix and a min or so to rense one out and that means allways having a few spares on hand as reuse = never running out btw I have a big gold[something] water filter upstream so if a primary ever did fail and allow dirt thru it ain't going to get far |

I order a few whenever I get something from fastlane (I like the clear type), so I always have a few spares. IMHO, it's not worth the trouble to clean them unless you run out.

GO to West Marine.......Startron Diesel Additive....It will put all the crap in a suspension & you will burn it out in no time. If this doesn't work buy a gasser......
