Running your diesel off of coconuts

I know many people run their Mercedes on veggie oil, but I wonder how running on coconuts would smell?

I believe coconut oil has a very high gel point. But hey, for tropical environments...

Cheers, John

Your exhaust does take on certain properties of the oil you burn. Definite difference between Vegetable Oil and Peanut Oil. If you want to have fun use Keroscent - Cinnamon is outrageous.

You can run your diesel off of coconut oil. It does have a high gel point. I think it is something like 60 degrees, but once heated it can be a very good fuel.

Remember one division of plant oils into 2 categories:

There are hardening oils, like linseed oil or tung oil, and non-hardening, like cooking oils; you don't want to put anything which has a trace of the hardening type in your motor. biodiesel.org used to have a list of what was in each category, but I haven't tuned in there for a while.

Coconut oil is an excellent biodiesel feedstock

Coconut oil has the highest percentage of saturated fatty acids of almost any organic oil source. This means it has a very long shelf life and will not oxidise and go bad. Biodiesel made from coconut oil also has a very high cetane #. Except for the fact that the gel point for biodiesel made from coconut oil is a little higher than others, it is prabably one of the best biodiesel feedstocks there is. For more southern climes or summer use in northen areas it is a premium fuel.

I once suggested adding a little Citronella

to shoo the mosquitoes out of our neighborhood, but others expressed concern about some people's allergies.

and we would go on vacation to Cape Fear or Myrtle Beach we saw the trucks that had something shooing off the mosquitoes. Come to think of it, it did NOT smell like citronella or peppermint and if you ran in the smoke stream - well, I don't recall much after that
