Radiator brand opinions
The time may have come to replace the radiator on my 300CD.
I suspect the Behr radiator that is in the car may be original. Any opinions on brand? Behr: $282 Nissens: $192 Silla: $156 Any appreciable difference in quality? I have a Nissens in my 400E, don't know a single thing about the "Silla" radiator but at that price I have to at least consider it. |

I have the rad that came out my '82 300D. Can't find brand. Was working a month ago. This has the hose to expansion tank, no cap, also has inputs for trans hoses, holds pressure, no leaks. Can send pics via reg-email only. r58m@hotmail.com

I replaced the Behr on my car that got severley clogged up two years ago with a Silla. I installed it and no problems. I made sure to flush the hell out of the whole system before installing and now I make sure to only use Zerex and distilled water. I have a feeling that this will prevent most of my problems.

Go with the Nissens. Best value for the money and well built too. No regrets!

I was planning on putting one in my 300D, but I broke the neck on the old one and didn't want to spend time messing around. I just bought a Behr because it was available locally, maybe I'll try the "Wizard" next time (hopefully not for quite a few years).

I've installed several Nissens and quite a few Behrs. I had one Nissens start leaking at the crimp on the top where the aluminum fingers are bent over the plastic tank. It was too hard to find the paperwork to return it, PITA. Only use Behrs from now on.

Behr is the most durable, I use copper Behrs although now aluminum Toyo are available for my vehicles, somehow in extreme conditions, would put my faith on Behr copper.

I just put a Nissens in my coupe
I just put a Nissens in my coupe. Was more interested in price differential. I ordered the rad, upper and lower hoses, and a therm, from AutoHauz (Arizona) for around $220. (order the 1 inch resovoir hose (lower)
I was pleased with the quality and installation ease, although it did not have the reinforcement in the neck like I was expecting. BTW... Black on Black. Do you have any pictures. I don't think I have seen a coupe like that.........that is what I would have wanted...

Thanks all, if spraying all the crap out w/ a garden hose and/or pressure washer that is probably lodged in the radiator does not help, then I'll likely order up a Nissens.
spugeddy: I'll put up some pics in the next couple days - the only ones I have are from when the car was filthy. Mine is the only black-on-black coupe I have ever seen. I see some black exteriors, but never w/ the black interior. It does look nice though it can be punishing in Atlanta summers. |
