Is my tranny shot, 82/300sd/230K miles

Hello,

My transmission does not start in 1st anymore.
Full throttle take off, is now slow! No 1-2 shift.

However, I can manually down shift into "L" and it works.

Kickdown works and the other gears are OK.

Any ideas what determines 1st gear start.

Appreciate any and all comments.

Brian

What is the condition and the level of the tranny fluid? When was the last filter/fluid change performed?

You'll lose first gear on an SD if the Bowden cable is too slack. Check to see if the cable needs to be tightened so that the socket is directly above the ball when you snap it in place. Shortening the cable further is of additional benefit.

The adjustment is the black plastic screw on the opposite side of the bracket. Turn the screw counter-clockwise to take up slack in the cable.

lost 1st gear start

Hello,

Thanks guys made some adjustments to the cable and seems to be Ok now.

However, it was nice to have no 1st gear take off for around town. It would be nice if there was way to control this. Any ideas?

Is this cable easy to replace, I noticed it goes straight into the transmission.

Did you make the adjustment to the cable as advised?

Do you now have a first gear start?

Why do you want to replace the cable? It's a miserable job and you don't need to do it.

Well Brian,
If you adjusted the cable, and you liked it better the other way, um, adjust it back like it was......
I don't think you can have it both ways........
