need a little guidance please....

any insights on removal of, and replacement of the front sunroof seal on my 84 300D-t.got the back changed without much problem.the front though, looks to be a time consumer as well as a piecemeal removal, leaving no image to compare, to reinstall new seal.since I am outside, this becomes an all at once job.thanks

to start off, replacing the front seal is a PITA. I have replaced mine twice
the first time I finally had the local shop do it for $70.00. I had the windows, sunroof, trunk, and molding off to paint the roof and rear quarterpanels. that was 10 yrs ago. so this past sept it was time to redo
things again, leaky rear window and clear coat peeling. so this time i was
a little more careful how it came out, ( the front seal). now there is a little
divit in the center of the seal. have it point down and use it as your starting point and work out both ways from the center of the sun roof opening. take a look at the end of the seal. there is the part the S/R pushes against, and the piece behind it we will refere to it as the top piece. the bottom is ribbed and longer to the rear. that bottom piece has
to be worked in first then the top piece. use some silicone spray, it helps.
I used a piece of plastic bondo spreader to help push it in and a patient
wife. you don`t want any thing sharp to cut the rubber or scrape the
paint. hope I helped some here.

WOW,what a PITA! that gasket is to put in!!!
While I was in there I also noticed that the brushes on the side were bad.so I also changed them. Now the sunroof does not close completely w/o some manual assistance at the very end of its travel.with no help it closes to about a quarter inch roughly(maybe less-but not all the way). Are there adjustments that need to be made AFTER replacing front seal and side brushes? Is this normal? Is there a "break-in" period for these seals?
Sorry no way to post a pic at present.
And yes the front seal is seated correctly.the mechanic at the local dealer said it looks installed correctly, but I have to make a appt for any more info!cant afford that.any help or insights are appreciated.

the new rubber is quite a bit larger than the old compressed seal. on mine, I closed the sunroof for 3 months, left it out in the sun, and it seems to close MUCH easier now.

oh, on another note, you may need to clean out your sunroof drive tube, and relube it. THAT could be the reason your motor can't overcome the rubber.

If your rubber is too large, that sounds like a personal problem LOL
I still have trouble getting mine closed like I said above in the other
post. I just closed it up for the winter. now we are getting some nice
weather my wife is goning to want that thing working. I lubed up
the rails with that special lube, but probably need to pull the cable out
and clean and lube it. 22 yrs and most likely never taken out and cleaned.
I have seen some write up about changing these to manual sun roofs.
might be something to think about.
