Vibration during idle

I've noticed that I'm getting a lot of vibration during idle. The engine is running smoothly and I had the motor mounts replaced about 4 years ago. They seem to be ok. Is there something else I should check? Thanks.

the obvious things are

1. mounts - some of the aftermarket mounts don't last that long. 4 years, it might be time for new ones.

2. Injectors - when last did you replace or rebalance them?

could be your engine vibrating..:smartass:

Sorry, had to get my 'tom foolery' over with for the night. :D

if your mounts and injectors check out then your engine shocks are next to suspect.

I have 83 300D That would spill your coffee at idle...That was until I did a diesel purge treatment. Seemed to mellow the idle right out, and was a lot cheaper and easier than motor mounts or engine shocks. Also, you might want to check the rack damper pin on the injection pump to make sure it is tight. Be careful not to torque it too much!

I've never touched my injectors, and my engine is seems to be idling smoothly. I'll check my mounts again. How difficult is it to replace the engine shocks?

I have the problem you describe, exactly. I have replaced mounts with new dealer mounts(there seems to be some doubt about non-OE parts in this regard), new Febi Bilstein engine shocks, new dealer upper shock mounts, and new dealer lower bushing kits. Adjusting the valves helped a lot, as six had tightened up to my surprise(I had adjusted them not to long before). I'm going to do a purge and tweak on the rack bolt a bit as there is still a little bit of shake at idle, however car drives out well otherwise.

If it sputters intermittently, rocking side to side (especially when fully warmed up)-diesl purge, a set of fuel filters, and a valve adjustment sounds in order-synthetic also helped mine a lot too, dino oil sludged up very quickly.

My engine is idling fine though. No real shake. I guess I'll just live with it. With the mileage I have I shouldn't complain.
