I bought another diesel but...

I bought another diesel but I may be leaving this forum. I found out that this forum has stopped allowing requests for carfaxes. I can believe it. I could understand if the reports were worth the money they charge but they're not. Everyone I've gotten that I paid money for had errors. So I won't pay for them anymore.
So this will be my reason for saying goodbye to everyone.

So you would leave this forum and all it has to offer over that????

Well, what is that saying about a door hitting you....................

Sorry, but what a stupid reason. I seem to remember it as being a legal matter, or a threatened legal matter. This forum's purpose is not to research a specific car.
Man, that logic gets dumber the more I type. I'll go ahead and stop now......

That's got to be the nuttiest reason for leaving this forum.

Your gonna leave because you can't get free carfax reports anymore? That seems kind of trivial.

I have no problem with you, but you're acting like an IDIOT.

Carfax has sent messages to other websites telling the owners they will be sued if requests are allowed on the forums.

That does sound pretty weak...I mean, this forum was never created for such purposes, and really it is a naive idea to expect it.

That aside I've never wasted my money on such things as a carfax, without even having seen one I can tell you the report has very limited accuracy, in that it relies on someone actually reporting an incident, such as an insurance company or the like. I have been turning wrenches for years now, and I'll tell you the carfax is useless against people such as myself, whom do all their own repairs, or buy projects and fix them up, that sort of history never gets seen by a carfax. I don't go building burnt or smashed cars and selling them, but you could easily see how such a thing can happen and the carfax would call it a clean car. All it takes is one step, for the PO to decide to sell off the car to someone who intends to repair it, be it totalled, derrilect or whatever, if the insurance was only liability and the PO's fault so not turned in,or PO didn't report it to anyone and just call it a sale, the history simply doesn't exist. I always buy cars based on personal evaluation when I look them over, or because I know even if the car has issues it has enough value in parts or rarity to recover my expenses.

OK so its a dumb idea and yes I feel like an idiot. Let me sleep on it. I was just peed when I got some of the replies from the members to my c.f. request thread and to my email. I'll never post my email address again.

We didn't even get a carfax on our cars when we bought them, I got one on mine a long time ago for the heck of it, it was riddled with errors, and huge gaps of time....essentially all it did was allow me to see when it shifted owners (2 times) and sorta verified the mileage, which I know was accurate because of records in the glove box. So essentially it was useless....

Do what you feel is best. In your original thread, you mentioned how inaccurate they are, why bother.

CarFax is a complete waste of time and money anyways. They only show whats reported to them by the DMV, emissions stations, and voluntary reporters. That car could be a flood recovery and it won't show it if the car was refurbished by a shady seller.

I agree with everyone else, leaving a forum JUST because it's members are not allowed to give out free carfax reports asinine. Carfax reports are NOT what this forum is for.

Hey DJ, stay around. I always enjoyed your input, and talking to you once in awhile. Besides, we need all the Lithuanian American diesel drivers we can get.

The knowledge and camaraderie is still here, though there are fights sometimes.

As for the CARFAX thing, just sign up at an obscure forum where the Carfax Nazis haven't caught on yet.

I went to www.crownvic.net several months ago, and the members there gave them to me for nothing with a polite request. They will still do it, it might not hurt to join in a discussion or two first, though. I used to own those cars and still like them.

Those guys are mostly either 16 years old, policemen, wannabe policemen, and ultra far right wing nuts, who like Crown Victorias and Grand Marquis, but they are helpful if you are polite and just stick to the cars, just be sure you don't praise Hillary, hate home schooling or say you want to take their guns away.
