I had a Chevy TH350 do that. Six weeks later the TC imploded and shrapnel then entered the oil pump, causing the rest of the tranny to cease operation. Only thing usable for the rebuild was the shell. I was going 70 mph when it decided to let go.

Dont over react! Any repair manual that lists diagnostics on auto transmissions lists as the first things checked are trans fluid level and fluid condition. This trans can be completely drained easily and fluid and filter replaced. What you describe can be as simple as low fluid! Fluid level is checked on level ground, engine running, trans in park after at least 20 to 30 min. of vehicle use. Fluid should ideally be between the add and full marks. It takes very little fluid to go from add to full. Be careful if adding. Beyond fluid level and replacement of fluid and filter, a trans shop should determine cause. I would also ask you to do a "search" on this site regarding delayed engagement and ignore for the moment vacuum repairs. Delayed going into gear from park is not usually a vacuum issue.
