Diesel Fuel Leaking onto exhaust pipe...!

I have noticed that the Exxon Valdez (my 1980 300cd) has sprung a new leak. This time it appears to be diesel fuel leaking onto the exhaust pipe, it leaves a drop on the ground nearly every 30 seconds. With my luck, I just filled up with diesel fuel a week ago and I probably have 12 gallons left in the tank. Do you think a fuel leak onto the exhaust pipe is caused by old and brittle fuel hoses? I'm guessing mine are the originals or at least a decade old by now. Other than a USPS minivan hitting the car and the car getting keyed and this new leak it's doing well.

It is most likely an old fuel line - It seems my old 300D had a leak in that area but don't recall it being much of a fix.

Looks like that inner CV boot in the pic is getting a misting of fuel. Clean that off, cause it will cause the CV boot to deteriorate.

I'll put the car on ramps and see if it's the fuel line and clean off the CV boot...

Yup, it's a fuel line that is leaking now. I'm pretty sure that the tank needs to be drained to change it, and I've got around 12 gallons in there now. Would anyone happen to know the size of the hose off hand?

I used standard 5/16" on mine- it is a tight fit, but it works just fine. You can just clamp the hoses coming off of the tank with Vise-Grips, do the far end first, then do the close end quickly (put the hose clamp on the fuel line before you slide it on). You will lose a little fuel- just have a catch basin and some cardboard handy.

If you use the Vise-Grip method, don't forget about them and have to post a three page message as I had to (see post #27).

Thanks, ill try my luck with vice grips and the 5/16" fuel hose. I know I'll be covered in diesel tomorrow one way or another. I like wrenching on this car but I screw up a lot .

When you do it, make sure to wrap a plastic bag around your axle boots so that they are protected from the fuel. You don't want to have to replace those unnecessarily.
