'84 300 turbo diesel rear brake pads help please

Hi, recently took the calipers off and compressed the cylinder, now to get the pad out. I'm not familiar with these part names, so you will have to exscuse my descriptions. Anyways there are 2 holes on each pad with 2 studs that go from 1 pad across to the opposite side. My question is do I hammer these out? There is also 2 metal clips that might need to be taken off before as well, but I couldn't figure how to get them off because they are pryed in place. Thanks for the help and input. Tay.

if they are ate calipers the pins are driven out with a drift. if bendix they are pinned in with a small hair pin. once the pins are out the springs will come out. easy easy easy to change.

Just to clarify further.

Remove the cotter pin

push the metal pin from the side the cotter pin was located.

"Metal pins have a taper and can only be removed from one side."

Remove anti-rattle clip

Pull pads out

No need to pull caliper

that is correct.

then with the pins out and the springs out, take a big screwdriver and drive it between the pad and the rotor. then pry the pad away from the rotor til it wont go any more. then take the pad out. if the new pad is a tight fit you may be able to scrape out the caliper but i usually just take it over to my bench grinder and tale a little off the edges of the pad til it slips in. then a smidge of bearing grease on the edge of the pad and a little silicone on the back and insert it.

repeat on the other side of the caliper, then do it all again on the other side of the car.

with a little practice you can just about change the pads as quickly as you can jack up the car and remove the wheels.

my dad used to say it was about as hard as making a ham sandwich!
