124 radiator fans

My 300D 2.5 begins to run hot in traffic with the ac on. I noticed the ac fan is coming on, but the second fan does not, unless I physically get it turning. And then, it turns slower than the ac fan, though the temp gauge is saying about 100c.

My question is, can the fan be taken apart and loosened up? Or does it maybe have a flat spot and it needs to be replaced. Looks expensive...

Yes it's expensive.

If you're lucky, the windings haven't toasted yet.

Usually it is due to leaves and junk behind the fan, try loosening the assembly to look/clean behind it.

If it is the fan itself, Remove the fan assembly, remove the fan blades with the large nut on the front, and you can lubricate the motor bushings.

If one fan is running slow/drawing lots of power, it will slow the other down until the resistor burns out.
