buying my first 126 today.....

Going north to Edmonton to buy a 1982 300SD. Little rough on the paint and body, but overall well maintained....try to get some pics when I get back.

I understand that, but unfortunately coming from down south you guys don't realize our situation up here - there's simply not that many to go around.

We take what we can get, unfortunately....however, here's my first purchase (my current signature car):

Not too shabby, eh?

Kind of late for pictures, but here's one with flash, one without.

One down this week, two to go.

Oh yeah....I get there and I see why the guy was selling it. Where it was previously parked (he drove it to work today), is a gleaming, silver, pristine, fully tinted including the windshield 1987 or so 300SDL Turdo Diesel.

Too bad he wasn't selling THAT!

Yes, snowy Canada.

25 years of previous service records. There is mention of oil cooler lines leaking, something I can replace myself. There is also an exhaust leak from near the manifold, of which the previous owner was quote $400 to fix. The suspension seems fine, and with that, rotors were replaced last year.

There's a rip around the driver's seatbelt strap where it retracts.

Yes, except the seats, only because I didn't realize they might be electric. Will check tomorrow.

Seems fine...will check closer tomorrow.

AMHIK? What's that one stand for?

Well, did some work last night on it. Virgin ALDA - I think. Peeled the metal, but found a tar-like substance around the screw - definately not rubber. Screw only turned 1/4 of the way, no real noticeable difference.

Decided on banjo bolts for the ALDA and manifold....ALDA bolt was somewhat clean. Hmmm....checked the banjo bolt for the manifold and started unscrewing it.

Hmmm, again.....the hose does seems really long, because it's hanging down beside the valve cover....hang on a cotton-pickin' minute!?! It's not connected to anything?

Sure enough, it split long ago, and the bolt was plugged. I then had to run and get my daughter, so I quickly cleaned the bolt a bit (not enough yet), and then spliced the hose on again.

While doing that, I noticed a vacuum line that was also disconnected. Re-connected it and noticed that my hard shifting is now firm, not hard. Need to find the other leak on that and clean that up too.

That's Canadian. Not as much of a deal, as our dollar is now almost worth as much as yours.

Almost 400,000 miles on her. Seems like a lot for the price, but my first 300SD (w116) would probably fetch around $6-8000 right now.

Did I mention I have 25 years of service records with it?

I guess you're right. That's $2222.53 US according to current rates.
400K is a lot even with records.
Anything major done?

Just planning to look through those now. I'll let you know.

Almost 400,000 is a lot yes (the last car in my sig), but I also like the idea of an older vehicle with that many miles putting younger cars to shame. And it's a highway vehicle, not in-town.....60km to work one-way.
