A/C question

My A/C compressor is not engaging. I am working from a Hayes manual which does not have much on the subject. There is a diagram which shows a pressure switch and a A/C relay.

I traced the wire from the compressor clutch into a harness and that's as far as I got.
Where are these 2 items located?

Can you tell me what this circular gizmo is on the driver's fender? I opened it and it has a white plastic looking disk that is wet. What on earth is it?

That is your tach amp. IT should not be wet.

How is your Freon level? There is a pressure switch in the dryer. It is on the passenger side. down behind the headlight assembly. If Freon is low, the compressor will not engage.

Forgot to add, you can jumper the wires together, with the center button pushed in on the CCU. IF the compressor clutch is good, it should engage. You can also leave the ignition in the the "run" position, but have the engine not running, and jumper the wires. You should be able to here the compressor clutch click as it engages and disengages

The Tach amp is not wet. My mistake. When I unscrewed the cap, this plastic lokking thing was shiny wet looking but it is some kind of sealant that I thought was wet.

It is probably low on Freon. The valve on the horiz pipe by the radiator releases a little pressure if I push on it. Is that where you fill from?

What is this box on the driver's wheel well?

I would like better documentation than just a Haynes manual. What else is available at reasonable cost?

I changed out my evaporator and flushed my lines once and while i was under, behind the glove box I disconnected a wire. It stumped me for weeks until I went back in and found what i had done. If you were in there check back for connections.
