w123: brake wear sensor indicator light, amber or red? (US vs. euro specs)

I have two 300TD turbos.

One is an 85 US spec, the light is amber. I have no suspicions that anything in the instrument cluster from the 85 was ever altered.

The other is an 84 euro, the light is red. I know that the speedometer was replaced when it was imported in 1989 (its in MPH). What I really want to know is if the entire instrument cluster was swapped out. I pulled the cluster a couple weeks ago and everything is stamped between 8/83 and 12/83, which seems like the correct time frame for when the car was built. The part that bugs me is that it has no tachometer, but it has the tach pickup and amplifier. A comparison of VIN searches on the russian site lists a tachometer on the 85, but not on the 84.

So, I was hoping that the color of the brake wear sensor, might shed a little light on the tachometer mystery for me. Was there a change in color between the 83 and 85 model years? Or, is it a euro vs US thing?

I have an 84 Euro model MB and the brake wear light is amber in mine as well. The cluster has not been changed on mine but it was ordered with English lettering on the instruments as if the car was going to be imported to some English speaking country.
My car was not part of any European delivery program.

Only the 300TD wagons had the turbo option.

Lance is right (as usual).

The turbo is definitely from the factory.

Is the red to amber light a model year change then?

I just happened to look at the cluster of a 79 300CD that I was taking the 3.46 diff from.
