Transmission Questions

I am still having transmission Problems. !984300sd. When I first get into car cold the transmission works fine through the changes. After about 45 miles of driving the car will not shift to last change. I do not know if it is called 3rd or 4th. I have adjusted the bowden cable and like I said it changes good until it gets hot. Yesterday I was driving at 60mph with cruise on, and the transmissiom downshifted. I put the car in neautral and lowered the rpms in it shifted back to correct gear. When the car will not shift I put it in neautral and it changes. I need some good advise on next steps to solve this problem. Help Please!!!

I found problem!!!

I got home this afternoon and checked the vacuum going to the modulator and when you gave it throttle the vacuum would only go to 10. I had read that the vacuum should go to 0. I unplugged the line going to the modulator and every thing shifts fine, My question now is how do I regulate the vacuum going to modulator and make it go to 0. Help please. Will it hurt to drive the car with vacuum line disconnected?

See if your Vacuum Control Valve ( the white plastic thing on top of the IP) is adjustable. If you take its cover off and there is a bolt that you can turn on the end of a shaft, you can adjust it. Do a search on here - I'm sure someone has discussed it.

Its OK to leave the line disconnected some awhile- I'm sure its "clunks" when downshifing into 1st, though.

Yes. I checked the kickdown switch and it works. To make sure I unplugged it for a while.
