Found a 123 79 gasser in the junkyard with a 4spd

Will this hook up to my 78 coupe ,or better yet my 84 300cd turbo model ?

Im going back today for further inspection ,Ill check .The trannie could possibly be used on either one of my two coupes ,an 84 300cd 278k ,78 300cd 210k .These are cars with good titles and no rust I purchased in the last year or so,Im not sure of the trannies but the motors are shot.TheY both HAVE clean interiors and bodies, thats what sold me on these 2 vehicles,ONCE iVE GOT BOTH OF THESE RUNNING AND IN TIP TOP ORDER ,iLL PROBABLY RETIRE FOR A WHILE ON COLLECTING ANY MORE. I sure would like a 4spd in that 84 turbo though, just not sure if this is the step in the right direction.

Hey, I'd like to buy that whole set-up from you, if you can get it, and want to sell it. I'd like to convert my 82 280CE gasser, to a stick, if I can.

You sure about that? I thought all W123 manual transmissions would bolt up to the 61X engines. The W124 and W210s manuals will NOT.

the 123 sticks should all bolt up to the 123 motors, i believe.

you need to change the tranny, flywheel (be careful here, there are pitfalls that you need to know about balancing....some engines have the flywheel balanced with the crank....it is on an engine by engine basis not by model of engines....so if you get into it let us know and we can walk you through the process), shifter, shift rods and driveshaft. the rear end ratios are different on some stick cars too.

i recommend using a 346 rear ratio with a stick in any 300d motor.

the speedo matches the rear end ratio and must be changed along with it.

good luck

Which engine is in the gasser?

AFAIK, the transmissions mated to this engines are interchangeable: M110, M115, M123, OM615, OM616 and OM617.

They all have the same bolt pattern and the starter bump on the same side.

As tom (t walgamuth) stated two posts ago, you need lots of stuff from the gasser you're getting the tranny from. I suggest you buy the whole car and after you're done with the swap, sell it for pieces.

just my two cents...

I know for a fact it wont. Starter bump is on the wrong side. You might however want to pull the short driveshaft and linkage. That stuff is priceless.

If the starter is on the passenger side it will work on a 617 or 616. Don't forget the flywheel.
