How do I put the fuel in?!?!

I just bought my '84 300TDT. I was driving to work and stopped for fuel.
I could not find the release for the door covering fuel fill.
Where is it??

Please help me!

The fuel door is controlled by your vacuum lock system. If your doors are locked, so is the fuel door and trunk. There is no interior release. Once the doors are unlocked, the door will be able to be opened. This is assuming you have an acceptable amount of vacuum in the system.

Push on the front end of it. If the vacuum unlock is failing, you can access the lever in the storage compartment on the back left inside.

Thanks

With the help of two other technicians (not automotive techs, though) we discovered that by pushing on one side of the door it did in fact open.
I will have to go through the door locks though. They operate slow to not at all.

I was actually pondering the same thing on my '77 300D the night I bought the car. The PO must have noticed me staring at the fuel door, and he admitted to me that he had been stumped for several days by it before realizing you had to push on one side to rock it open.

When I first got the car, I had the same dilemma. Only after prying it open with a pen did I notice how it really worked.

hey, to add to your knowledge, the spring for the fuel door is designed by MB to house the fuel cap while filling! really kinda neet.

I put my cap in with the part that goes in the tube facing away from the spring. toward the fill tube.
