Help! Need pic of #14 head and location.
I found a 87 300sd that's 200 miles away from me. The current owner is clueless about what a casting # is (woman) much less how to find it (the last 87 I looked at WAS a #14 with very low coolant). Sounds OK but I don't want to drive that far if it's a #14, as the other car I want to look at Saturday is a 85 300sd 100 mi (opposite way).
Thanks |

It is under the intake manifold where it crosses over the engine. I believe it is near the #2 injector. You are looking for the last 4 numbers 14 01 or in my case 22 01.

There was no '87 300SD produced.
Either it's an '87 300SDL or a '87 300D. They are completely different vehicles. The casting number is directly below the crossover pipe on the side of the head. The typical seller will never find it..........you'll need a mirror. Why worry about a #14 head..........it it's not been abused, it will last the life of the vehicle. |

300sdl
Explaining to the owner where to look is no help at all. I have to email pics for neighbor to look at casting #.

Hello
BadGator,
Why not find the nearest dealer and ask if they have a female tech that you can employ to do a survey of the vehicle's head number? Then , ... no matter what happens ... you can blame estrogen? |
