Loud whinning sound
I just got my new 79 300SD on the road. What a joy to drive! Anyway, after about 5 miles of highway driving I start getting a loud whinning sound. It will go away if I let off of the accelerator and it kind of changes if I swerve the car. Does this sound like a wheel bearing? I'm gonna check the differential fluid tomorrow and take a look at the carrier bearing too. It's taken longer than I expected to get this progect on the road, I thought I was there but just not yet.... Thanks.

those are good places to start. Maybe the power steering pump is worth a look at too(?)
So, you got your transmission back together OK? - it works/shifts well in all gears? Rick

Afterward, check your door/window seals.

Tranny is back together ok and is shifting smooth. It's not window seals as I had all the windows down.
