SD aux fuel tank removal

Hello. I want to remove the auxilliary fuel tank from my '81 300SD and install it in my '84 300SD. I have unbolted the brackets but can't see how the two tanks are connected. Does anybody have any experience with this?

Thanks!

Randy

Yes, only 1 tank. I had it out of my '82 last summer. After unbolting the brackets on both sides, removing the rubber grommet from around the filler neck and pulling both fuel lines from below, it should come out. Mine was stuck from being bolted in for 24 years. It seemed to stick at the brackets themselves and from the rubber gasket below the tank where the fuel lines come through the trunk floor. It also may be stuck on the mounting studs as well. I pried a little with a bar at strategic places to get it off of the studs until it was free then I swung the driver side of it out first, disconnected the level sender coupler and swiveled it out comepletely. Be careful not to bend any of the tank seams as it could cause a leak. Hope this helps. Eric.
