Car will not start need help. 1985 300D
My brother's 1985 300DT will not start. Battery is not dead, lights come on and radio works. Need some Ideas on what to check before I head out to tow his car from the restuarant he's having dinner at right now. Any help and all help is welcome. Car does not crank. Said you can put in the key wait glow plug light to turn off and nothing happens.
Thanks in advance JGAR

Maybe a cracked glow plug relay fuse. Woops I missed the will not crank part. Probably not the fuse.

You could try and run a 12V jumper right to the starter solenoid. There's a very small wire on the solenoid that comes from the keyswitch. That's the terminal that you want to jump to.
This bypasses the keyswitch. If nothing happens, then you've got cabling problems to or from the starter............or the starter itself has gone south. |

Haven't personally experienced this but I often read here there is a safety switch that prevents starting the car in gear - you have to be in Park or Neutral. Apparently this switch can be damaged and not recognize you are in Park after twenty plus years. The answer is either to try moving the lever in and out of Park a few times or starting in Neutral, and if that works, changing the switch. Good Luck, Jim
