seat spring repair for w126 newbie (just got SD)
I suppose this is not a diesel specific question, but more a w126 question.
I just picked up my first mercedes, - 1985 300sd, 256k. it's a little rough but runs well and was cheap. Suffers from the same interior issues as all the w123's and w126's I've looked at. Driver's seat springs are really bad. Sit down and fall to the floor. I'm very handy, have a decent home shop with plenty of tools (including welder) and want to get this thing the way it should feel for as cheap as possible. Should I buy those pool foam tubes and insert them? I'd imagine at least a few springs are broken and need to be replaced/repaired What are my options? Passenger side is next Cheers |

Hey-
Welcome to the forum. You can do a search on pool noodles and get a lot of info. I bought a new spring from someone parting out a car. Maybe you can find something or place a request in the PARTS forum. Before I found the spring I was going to try to fix the old one with brake line. Danny

In case you are unaware....the drivers and passenger seats are interchangable. Look for a good passenger seat bottom.

I would recommend that you purchase a replacement horsehair pad. They run about $110. and return the seat to almost new condition. I also add a piece of 1" memory foam on top of the pad.........makes the seat fantastic for long trips. |

Can anybody recommend a good source for a used part like this? There are not too many pick'n'pulls in my area. Great suggestions, thank you I have a heated foam seat bottom from my old Saab 9000. I wonder if that can be made to fit. |
