85 300d won't start
Hello All,
Im a new 1985 mercedes 300D owner and new to the site. This just started to happend after owning the 300d after a month. I'l drive my 300d around town for some errands and get it to driving temperature. After shutting it down at the store i'l come back and start it up and it wont crank. The lights , radio, windows work, after letting it sit for about 1 hour it will turn on like like normal with no hesitations. Any and all comments greatly appreciated |

Welcome to the site. I assume you mean the starter does not turn the engine over when the car is hot. If this is so you may be suffering from what was called starter heat soak years ago. The starter solenoid just does not like to perform it"s function when hot.
Carry a gallon of watert in the trunk and whatever it takes to apply it to the starter the next time it occurs. If the car starts fairly quickly afterwards then it is probably the issue. It is also possible to have a marginal electrical connection that is increasing resistance when hot. The prime suspect for that may be the ground strap from the body to the engine under the car. A way to test for that is to take a battery booster cable set and hook one cable to the negative terminal and the other end of the same cable to the engine. Make sure you get a good connection. That effectivly replaces the ground strap temporarily. Do the starter water cool down first. If that does not work start out by removing and cleaning the connections that feed the starter circuit. |

Put your car mileage and location in your CP. Does the eng turn over at all? Click Click? Do your power locks/climate control work normally?
