I used the spray-on rubberized undercoating, no problems for me besides a weak can.
I accidentally dropped one can onto flat concrete from about 3' height and it burst all over my car and my clothes. I was able to wash it off in time but it shouldn't have been so easy to bust the can open. |

Wear clothing you don't wish to use again - a hair net and safety glasses a must. I did the Jackaroo so ground clearance wasn't a problem. Purchasing a blue tarp to drive vehicle on will help with collecting ground overspray. Use painters tape around the wheel wells so you can get some nook and cranny coverage underneath without having to do cleanup on the paint afterwards.

First, there must be no rust. Any rust will continue, and undercoating can actually keep it moist and make it worse. Clean, prime, paint, then undercoat.
Second, be sure you don't block any body drains. It was common in the '70s to get a car undercoated, in the '80s many European automakers put a clause in their rust warranty that would void the car's rust warranty if you "rustproofed" it. The rustproofing would block some body drains and hold water /moisture in places it shouldn't. It also was an invasive process, where the rustproofer would drill through doorjambs etc. to spray, creating raw metal surfaces where there previously was zinc/primer/paint. I've used the Wurth rubberized undercoating product to touch-up areas in the past with good success.

use with caution....
cars are designed to drain water and undercoating usually clogs drains. shops that spray your car are not going to take time to do it right. A fast buck is what they want. Most cars don't really need the stuff. Think and plan it out before you spray. Yes, there are good times and places to spray, but you must be sure to not do more harm than good. Don't spray on rusty metal don't spray in holes don't spray over fasteners And it's a pain to remove. I sprayed my 914 trunk years ago...as it was rust free (unusuallfor these rusty old Porsches). I didn't count on the stuff staying tacky and not drying. I never got it all out. The factory stuff dries but is a little flexible. The spray can stuff never fully dries.
