126 diesel fuel economy?

What would be a reasonable expectation fuel economy-wise for a 300SDL? Those of you that have them, what are you getting with yours?

Thanks.

On average I get 850Km per tank, I have no idea what that works out to because I don't know the size of the tank

Plus, you Canadians have some strange measure of volume, too, don't you? Imperial gallons or something like that? Maybe that's old and is different now. Anyhow, I appreciate your input. Just not sure how to process it. What do you have? 300 SD? SDL?

If somebody else here knows the size of the tank, maybe we can figure it out.

Thanks.

I believe it is 22 gallons. I get about 25-27 mpg.

Okay, that's helpful. Thanks. From that it sounds like 635 is getting approx. 23.6MPG in his. I'm assuming the SDL would be heavier and therefore get a little less mileage than the SD.

I actually have both SD and SDL, the SDL is a much more smoother and comfortable ride compared to the SD. With the SD I get about 950Km per tank

My SDL will capture just short of 26mpg normal city/highway combo driving. Speed and A/C really play a part in fuel economy. The Natchez Trace, that long highway the angles through MS speed limit is 50 mph. With cruise set at 50 and no AC, she will slightly bump across the 30mpg mark. Long Intestate commutes like JAX - NOLA 75mph cruise and A/C easy 28 mpg.
--Not Scientific, but I have kept some pretty accurate records and measurements that I believe to be realistic.--

Light stop and go with A/C, my SDL will get 26-27MPG, and on open road, 70MPH, no A/C, over 30 MPG. I usually average 27-28 MPG, with 75-80 and A/C.

Runs better with Bio-D

Hmmm....my 82 300SD is only getting about 420 miles to a tank, all highway.

New to me, haven't changed filters yet....guess I will.

Remember...there was an engine change from the 5 cylinder used up through
85 to the 6 cylinder starting in 86 for US 300 models. I had both.....and the 84 300SD with its five cylinder was less efficient than the 87 300SDL 6 cylinder (city and highway). Both engine displacements were 3 liters but the 6 cylinder was smoother and pulled much better, for whatever reason........more torque?

My SD gets about 24-26 mpg with all city driving. Usually 45mph ish. Not bad with 120hp/180ft lbs. and how big she is.

I've thought it would be nice to have an SDL for awhile. I'm liking that idea a lot more now.

What is the most likely culprit to cause mileage degradation on a deisel? What would you look at first, second, etc. in tracing a loss in fuel economy?

Plugged up air filter will really eat into mileage.
