Stupid exhaust question
A few months ago, I was backing up the pitted dirt road to the local biodiesel tank, and I knocked my whole exhaust pipe loose. Tailpipe all the way to the block, it looked like. Not the end of the world - a couple zip ties got me home, and a U-joint and a couple nuts have kept me rolling ever since.
But, it's not right, and I'd like to make it right. I was having some suspension work done, and my mechanic noticed it; said "you need muffler/exhaust hangers," and I said, "I know." But. I'm looking at all the parts catalogues, and remembering what the underside of the vehicle looks like ('85 california 300TD wagon) and I'm just not seeing how the parts solve the problem. (I told you this was a stupid question.) For example: I'm pretty sure I need a couple Muffler Hangers. They allegedly look like this: First of all, how the heck does that work? Second of all, I've also seen "muffler hangers" that look like this: Which is right? And then, there's these guys: which make moderately more intuitive sense - I figure since the whole pipe fell I probably need them as well... And then there's this "Center Rubber Bump Stop," which would likely dampen the rattle I hear at idle: But, naturally, I don't know where that goes, either. Sigh. Anyone got a pic or two of the underside of their Benz? All these parts are really cheap; I'd just like to save time figuring out where/how they go. Thanks.
