Ac
The air conditioning on my 83 300 DT works when it wants to. I drove in this AM for about 15 miles and it worked fine. Then an hour later, started the car and drove another 15 miles and no AC. When I turned the temp control to heat that works. Ideas?
Thanks |

when my 83 300SD did this (after I first bought it)
it turned out the clutch on the compressor was broken, and would engage sometimes, but not at other times. This is a real longshot, I had never seen this before. But it did happen. Do a good visual of the compressor pulley/clutch with engine running and confirm that it is indeed engaging. When I say broken, I mean the actual welds were split and the outer pulley ring had separated from the inner part connected to the bearing.

I had problems with my compressor cutting in and out or not coming on
at all. the problem was the flat plastic wire plug in at the compressor. the plastic was broken, and one of the wires wouldn`t slide all the way onto the flat spade part of the compressor. charlie
