Can you just 'swap' the motor from a '81 300SD into...

a '82 300D?
In other words is the '82 chassis capable of accommodating the '81 turbo engine with no mods?
Sorry...I'm not a mechanic though I do work for one.

(He's fishin' in the Derby at Bear Creek this weekend and is out of cell range)

Thanks,
FJ

There won't be any mods to make at all. The only exception will be the foreward part of the exhaust, and maybe a few of the brackets, and/or components, will need to be moved from the donor car. Mostly though, the job will be straight foreward.

The only other thing I'm not so sure about, is the Brake booster, as it is Vacuum operated, and may be different specs, than the non-turbo one, in the car. Very easily swapped also though..

I'm pretty sure this is as simple that, but I could be wrong about some things, and it could be more involved, than I'm thinking...

You will need a down pipe (the exhaust that comes off of the turbo) from a turbo W123 and the engine mount arms off of your non-turbo engine.

An '82 300D is a turbo, so it should have the correct exhaust pieces. (see, we knew it was a turbo because of the year, and didn't need the 300DT nonsense.....)

OOps, I thought it was a N/A. I can never remember what the transition years were for the wagon and sedan.
