Upper oil pan/lower block

Mines cracked and I want to know if I need to pull the engine out to replace it. That's if I can find a used one. If not maybe I can tig'er up. But I have to get it off to do so. Looks like maybe I could unbolt the engine and jack it up a bit or no?? it's starting to leak a lot of oil from the crack so I'd like to get it sealed up. w126 617.951

I believe you must pull the engine to get the upper pan off.

The service manual sez to remove engine first. The seal comes in rope form, you install what you need, trim off rest. Got the two pages of instructions in computer, too big to send here, PM me if interested.
