I wonder what other Unique Beater Diesels are out there?

ajrn 06-16-2007 12:05 PM

Yeah-- they used an Izuzu 4 cyl NA.

Ford had an Escort Diesel (83-86ish) and Tempo and Ranger diesels in the same time frame. They used a Mazda/Perkins designed engine.

I don't think Chrysler ever did the diesel thing here in the states. They were struggling just to exist, in the early 80's..

This is just too much!!!

The GT option on a Chevette Diesel?

My god, GTO (Homologated Grand Touring)!!!??? cladding on a Chevette Diesel?

Racing stripes and a GT badge aren't exactly enough to create a true GT car, but Dios Mio!!!

The "GT"
moniker has been corrupted for years, and put on anything and everything.

but this.......is truly, over the top

Who will be the first to put GT badges and racing stripes on a 240D automatic?

Believe it or not, the little Isuzu N/A diesel was a pretty good engine that would run up alot of miles before overhaul.

I had a Chevette with the Isuzu diesel. Loved and hated it. It was a death trap with the worst brakes in the world. It got 45+ mpg all the time! Sold it to an old guy who was driving one and had 3 more at home!

I remember him saying the motor and transmission combo in this little car would last forever and the motor was a marine diesel Isuzu has been using for decades.

Oh ya, it had 380k on the odometer and ran like it was new, that is if you could ignore the rattles and squeeks from the body!

That thing looks like a POS. I'd take a 240D over that any day.

Shorebilly 06-16-2007 05:52 PM

I don't know about the Chevette.....

The mid 80's Isuzu Pup is a nice little pickup.....and Isuzu is kinda like MACK over in Japan, a popular truck manufacturer.....and I have seen them worldwide and they seem to be quite reliable.....

Here is another unique diesel beater I never knew existed! - 1984 Lincoln Mark VII LSC turbo-diesel
From eBAy ad.
Quote: "1984 Lincoln Mark VII which came from the factory with the rare BMW 524td motor. Overall in good original condition. Runs and drives pretty well and a neat alternative to an older Mercedes diesel; VW diesel; Volvo diesel etc"

There is a guy running aorund town here in a white Fiat 2dr sedan with a diesel in it. It has a wing and a trailer hitch. I'll try and get a picture sometime.

In the '80s, Nissan Maximas were offered with a 6-cyl diesel, weren't they?

Yes they were. A neighbor had an '82, while I had the '83 gasser.
