EGR in 1985 Kickpanel.... Utoh... ZOINKS!
I read a ton of posts on how the 1985 Cali 300d Turbos have the egr relay fuse behind the kickpanel on the passengers side. So, I found it and undid it to find the fuse inside. I undid the relay. I have no idea how it was aligned before i removed it as I didnt think alignment would matter for a fuse casing.
Anyone have a clue? there are 7 different ways this can be attached. My tachometer is not working. Thats the reason for the fuse hunt... I have found the fuse missing from the red topped alum. box behind the glovebox and vent. 10 Amp goes there, right? I am guessing it is quite possible that it was defused on purpose as part of whatever previous owner did to disconnect the Cali equipment. Will reinserting it mess something up now that my vac lines have been altered( by P.O.) ? tHANKS

Generally with MBs if the plug can fit in any direction then the direction does not matter.
Also I thought that fuse near the glove box was for the A/C and tach. Does your tach work?

"With MBs the factory built plugs like that to only fit one way if the orientation makes any diffrence."
Uh, could you rephase that? I cant tell exactally what yer saying. The top itself pops up, spins and locks down in in all 7 positions. There is only one female contact point, and 7 male contacts. there is a resistor or somethin in the cap between a couple of the contacts... Looks like it functions as a varible switch to me... - Yes, my tach is out (since i got the car) and so is my AC. Middle vents were also out when I got it, those were fixed by replacing a fuse under hood.

It seems normal- but i havent driven it yet. Cant move my car or I will have to park 4 blocks from my house when I return. Love the City.
Found the following picture in another thread... it's #86 im staring at... On the top there is an arrow with a 3. I had flashlit the recepticle but it is not numbered. The picture is however--- now I can align 3 on cap with 3 on "trimming plug"... Seems like the thing to do... EDITED IN: The dial is a trimming plug for idle control. Turning the knob should raise or lower idle in 25 or 50 rpm increments. All Happy Now

Im back to the fuse hunt. ('no tach & no AC' fix) This is it here, yeah?
Is the red thing sticking out of the red top a fuse or a fuse holder? It looks more like a fuse socket adapter than a fuse... Than again, Im new to all this wonderfullness. I wanted to ask before I pulled on it and broke something (or not)

Yank it out. That is the 10amp fuse in the overload protection relay. On your 85, the AC won't work if the tach is inop. My tach is also inop, but the Klima contacts have been jumpered.....
