83 300d Trans Leak On Incline

Can the torque converter on 1983 300d drain back into trans case overfilling the case and causing transmission to leak out of vent? My driveway has fairly steep incline and levels out for parking at bottom. I have noticed when parking on incline after a while trans fluid leaks and when starting up and backing up out of incline leaves a decent trail for 20 feet or so. Also if start up cold on level at bottom of driveway and immediately back up driveway leaves leak trail. Was at work today and had the thought it may be overfull so I went out and started engine pulled hood and checked dipstick it appeared considerably overfull so I wiped stick and checked twice more with same result on level parking lot. So I thought when I got home I would get some of the fluid out. Drove about twelve miles home checked fluid and it was right on top mark. Could trans pump possibly be lazy? Usually goes into drive or reverse within 1-2 seconds. Has no flaring or rough shifting issues. Thanks in advance for any help as it will all be appreciated. Also what a wonderful forum this site has.

Not a good way to check transmission fluid level

To properly check transmission fluid level, drive vehicle until transmission is well warmed up, at least a mile or two. Then with engine at idle, run car through the shift speeds and reverse, then back into either park or neutral. Then check the level with the engine running. If you had done that before checking it at work, it might not have shown over full. You know that these transmissions are getting older. Leaky seals will start to show. I think you will have to make your own judgement regarding the leak that occurs when parked on the steep part of the driveway. Also, when the transmission is slow to go into gear, it is a sign of wear on seals and clutches. I would recommend a full quart of Lucas Transmission fluid for your transmission. My 85 300 turbo does much better when I add the Lucas fluid.
