Valve Body Kits?

for lack of a good reason not to, i took apart my valve body-
good thing too, cos i found a broken K2 spring, an the plastic pillar in K1 was cracked.

Then i found out nobody sells a valve body rebuild kit. WTF? the thing isnt difficult to break down or put back together, seems like a lot of DIYers would have been clamoring for a rebuild kit.

I looked at the usual suspects web stores and havent seen so much as a rebuilt valve body advertised. Anyone out there selling an overhaul kit?

Maybe you could work up a procedure on rebuilding the valve body and post it in this thread. I suspect that some folks on the forum, myself included, just don't want to venture into the mysterious unknown of the valve body. You can change that.

Tom

PS-Pics would be great.

I used the bulkparts kit. Somehow I was able to put it all back together and it actually works. The instruction that come with it are about the bare minumum you would need...I also had the atsg manual and that spelled things out a little clearer. The kit fixed my 2-3 flare, 3-4 flare and softend my 1-2 shift. somewhere on the forum is a pic of the valve & spring combo that can be switched to give 1st gear start... here's a link to some pics I took The "kit" can be seen in one of the pics at the bottom.

Dang!-- I let everyone down. I figgered this was a common thing for mercedesshoppers, tearing down a valve body, so i didnt bother with pictures. Just made a little butcher paper map of what i took out of the VB and went for it!. i wont catch the whole thing, but since i am waiting on some parts I will record the second half of the rebuild- maybe get some useful pics. or just get flamed for having a dirty workbench

Thanks for the resources guys-- some of them i had looked at, and discounted for not having the plastic bits- but a closer inspection makes it look like the bulkpart kit has the plastics. now where's that credit card...

one thing to keep in mind is the bulkpart kit replaces the plastic pillar/spring train with one big spring. So if yours are trashed then they get pitched anyway... I was skeptical at first thinking they used dual spring rates for a reason...that and the fact that the new springs seem to have a much higher springrate (they were much harder to get back in when it came time to screw the cap/cover plate back on).

another thing to keep in mind is when it's all buttoned up and atf is topped off...you will need to take it up to speed before fluid makes it to all parts of the valve body. My initial run after reassebly it started in first gear and held it until about 5000rpm before it would shift. (as it was aproaching 4500rpm I was thinking suicidal thoughts because I thought I had just fawked up my car) the next couple shifts were getting smoother and smoother until fluid was circulated and the springs were settling in.

Does anyone know what valve and spring combo to switch to give a 722.118 a first gear start?.
Thanks
