Help with my 1980 300SD!!

Hello,

I´m having some trouble with my 1980 300SD Turbo Diesel. While driving today, I smelled gasoline coming through the vents. My air conditioning was on, so I turned it off and back on and the smell was gone.

Also, I thought I´d mention that I´ve driven about 5000 miles on this particular set of fuel filters. Should I be concerned and try and replace it? Is there a self help instruction somewhere on the net? The link in this forum doesn´t seem to work.

Thanks!

GASOLINE? I think you may have been following too close to a gas car with bad plugs and poor economy, or a missing gas cap...

Well, I believe, he meant to say he smelled DIESEL..

not gasoline.
HE SMELLED >>>FUEL!

Through some way, that hadn't apparently been noticeable in the previous 5000 miles, the Diesel fumes are getting in his car.

sure, that makes sense, except he turned the controls, and the fumes went away... I believe he meant he smelled gasoline. diesel doesn't really have bad odor fumes...

i would check the cloth return lines, they might be old, brittle and leaking.
