R-12, anybody in Charlotte area wanna go in with me on a 50LB jug?

I have the Universal refrigerant certification, and I have been doing HVAC and Refrigeration for decades, but I can't cope with the Retail price of R12, (about 1000.00 for a 30 pound cylinder) Ebay has a seller that is selling 50 lb jugs for around 700.00 but pickup only due to hazmat requirements. that's no problem for me, I have friends that make the trip all the time, so I can get it here pretty easy, but I cannot afford the 700.00 for the jug... however, I only need 12 or so pounds, anybody wanna claim a few pounds in the area and share the burden of cost? plus get a/c work done at my shop?

do you know what the charge is in OZ? it should be stamped on the car somewhere, probably around 30 OZ. but I can't do it, unless enough of us, get together to buy the bottle. 700.00 is a bit steep right now I can probably do about 1/2 that, if enough want in, I am game to assist with charging/servicing the a/c in cars.

R 12 rip off

The price of R 12 in the US is insane! It is available in other nearby countrys for less than $200 for 30lb,and the price has actually dropped in the last couple of years due to the older cars that use it dying off or living without the a/c.However whoever it is that controls the price in the US has got the govt on their side and bringing any back into the US is treated as a VERY serious smuggling offence. If you are near one of these countrys drive the car down there and get the a/c serviced for a sensible price. My $.02 Don

Yah, if I lived in Tex, etc, I'd "revamp" a large full-sized van to have an ungodly AC capacity (yah know, huge condensor, giant accumulator, etc), then empty it, take it to Mexico and have it "fixed"..... Drive home, put my refrigerant identifier on it, then recapture it. Go to Mexico and get it "fixed", start cycle over!

well, I gots sad news... the tank only weighed 27lbs so the unused tank has leaked 13 lbs in 10 years... the seller swears the tank was unused, but the factory seal was not in place, and only had a little rubber nipple sitting on it. anyway, I will only have 17lbs to use... so it's gonna be a bit more pricey than I expected... sorry. I can still help some of you out, just contact me ahead of time... maybe I should still go for the 50LB jug.........
