116 SAE & Metric instrument clusters interchangeable?
I am wondering if the instrument clusters are interchangeable between the 120mph spedo & SAE gauges and the 85mph spedo & metric gauges. My odometer just went out and I kind of like the idea of SAE gauges. I can get this cluster for about the same price as it costs to fix the odometer if i do it myself. Anyone have experience with this?
Edit: I just realized the SAE cluster is for a diesel because it has the glow plug light. Last edited by rrorison; 06-21-2007 at 12:38 PM. |

It would seem sensible that units from the same cars are interchangable with the same gear ratios etc. They would have had great dificulty manufacturing with out interchangability for various markets. I would still repair my present odometer though as the new one might fail and you know what you have now. Unless you preffer one over the other.

Ok, i found that they are interchangeable. The only thing that did not work properly was the the tachometer. I guess that they have different amplifiers.
I ended up repairing my odometer and just using this cluster until i was finished with the repair. The SAE cluster also needed the odometer repaired.
