P/S pump question

Well, I picked up a new (used) P/S pump from the junkyard today (out of an early W126 diesel). I brought it home, cleaned it up, and went to put it in when I saw the tag on it. Both my new and old pumps are the same brand, have the same shape, mount up the same way, but the new one says "82 bar" and the old one says "60 bar." I would guess that this is referring to the pressure the pump puts out. So, the question is:
Are these two pumps interchangable? Will increasing the pressure by 25 bar adversely affect the life of anything else in the car (or my life, for that matter)?

BTW: I paid $14 for it with a 30 day warranty, so I can bring it back. It is just the nicest looking and spinning pump in the lot (plus the fluid is actually the right color...).

Just what is the "right" color for power steering fluid?

This fluid was an amber color- I believe that is the correct MB color. Mine is full of black fluid. Most of the pumps there have blackish fluid. This one still has the plastic wrap on the ID tag, so it must be new(ish).

So, any verdict on whether I can use it without some catastrophic (but spectacular) failure?

I suspect with out being sure. That bar rating is the pressure relief setting on the pump. You might want to see if it is advisable to change your old relief valve or just spring over to the new pump if easily done. I have never rebuilt a power steering pump so do not know. If you can not find any good information phone a pump rebuilder.

your top pump is out of an 84/85 model, the lower one is from a pre 84 I don't see what harm it could do, maybe make your steering a bit less sensitive.

Is one of those pictures a mirror image? I don't see how one could replace the other...

Weird- I didn't notice that. The one I got is the correct way, whichever one that is. I think I'm going to put it on and see what happens.

Update: I put it in and it works fine. Much better than the old one (but that is probably because the other one was near death). If it lasts the week without any problems I'd say it is interchangeable.

EDIT- it has worked fine since then! They are interchangeable.
