I'm putting a 240 diesel into my 220d, and I want to use the original manual trans, flywheel, and clutch. It will all fit, but I have read that MB crankshafts and flywheels are balanced as a unit. Is this true and if so will putting the 220 flywheel on the 240 engine cause problems?
Thanks for any help |
The solution, as per the book, is that when replacing a flywheel, the new flywheel is balanced to the old one so that the overall engine balance is maintained. Talk to your machinist about it.
I know the two tranny's & bellhousings and clutches are interchangable. I believe the two flywheels also carry the same part number. -CTH PS. Don't forget a new pilot bearing. |
