I'm still learning about turbos. Is trim synonymous with the amount of vanes the compressors have?

It's the relationship between the smaller diameter and the larger diameter of the compressor wheel.

Is replacing the compressor wheel the only thing that you have to change or do you also have to change the housings as well?

Euhm how can you guys tell witch turbo is better?
Garret has a biiiig turbo line with al kind's of turbo housing's
kkk the same

First check witch turbo you have and the dimensions of it and then see witch one is better for the engine.

Because I have used both the stock Garrett T3 and the stock KKK K26 on my engine.

I prefer the K26 since my engine tuning is mostly stock. It's what I keep as a spare in the event my GT2256V ever fails.

The dimensions are exactly the same between the T3 and K26. You don't have to change anything at all (except the turbo) if you want to switch turbos.

Correct, they are Japanese turbo manufacturers, they were the first to pioneer ceramic turbos as well as variable geometry which the Honda F-1 turbo engine used in 80s to develop 1200bhp from a 1.5L V6 engine.

Wow be nice if you could get even a fraction of that power on a 617 by using their turbo.

The problem with developing power in the OM616/617 is just not turbo boost, its many other factors including thermal, frictional etc. At the test bench when the OM616 turbo was developed, it was making close to 132bhp, MB engineers tuned it back to a conservative 91bhp just to keep the legendary reliability of the MB engines intact.
