I bent my hood mounts! W124 1987 300D

I was putting everything back together after installing a new expansion valve in my 300D when it started raining. I lowered my hood, shut the garage door, and put the hood back up. Once it stopped raining I pushed the button to open my garage door. The top of the door caught on my grill and hyperexteneded the hood. It bent the arms that hold the hood up. It shuts OK, but is an inch up at the back and the grill is an inch forward. Anyone ever replaced the arms before? I guess I need to find a junk yard near Huntsville, AL.

Anyway, I thought I would share my pain in hopes that someone else out there might avoid my mistake.

-Jim

I believe you'll have to remove the fenders to do so, any way you can straighten the hinges?

I have worked on a lot of 124 hoods and it's not terribly diffficult to replace them... but the fenders DO need to come off. start by taking off the turn signals, and the lower trim... take the bolts out from the door jam holding on the fenders, then get the fronts, and finally, take out the bolts inside the hood area... KEEP THE CLIPS!!! they tend to fall out!

once you get it all open, you will see the hinge mounting, and it's fairly straightforward...
