I have a crack in my flex exhaust pipe on my 83 300d turbo.
My mechanic says it's 400$ to fix incl. labor...that's why i'm going to do it myself. only think is that i can't find the part number...the various auto places on the net don't have a picture so i can confirm that i have the right item. i'm getting confused btween the 'down pipe' and the 'header pipe', neither of which have pics.

any help would be greatly appreciated.

is the same as down pipe. When you say "flex pipe", I assume you are talking about the portion of the down pipe that is nearly vertical just behind the engine. Order Cali. or Fed. whichever fits your car. about 20-30 minutes of work depending on the level of rust on bolts. Easy fix....not worth $400!!!
